So far in the second quarter of 2020, the export volume of dried white cardamom from Indonesia has been recorded at 132 MT, a significant increase from 125 MT compared to the same period last year amid the slowing down of global demand for this spices due to the coronavirus pandemic. Most of the cardamoms are sourced from the local farmers in some of the biggest producing regions in Indonesia, such as North Sumatra, Riau, and East Java. Most of the demand came from the neighboring countries in Southeast Asia region such as Thailand and Vietnam. The farmers are optimistic that the export volume would be able to reach the level of 150 MT in June 2020.
