The province of Taounate is the leading producer of figs in Morocco, with 40% of the overall national area.
Harvesting of figs has currently started in Taounate province.
Like the olive tree, the fig tree is an emblematic product and a symbol of the province's local heritage. Indeed, the annual harvest is estimated at 74,100 tonnes: 78% of regional production.
The province of Taounate is the leading producer of figs in Morocco, with 40% of the overall national area; In addition, thanks to the Green Morocco Plan, the province was able to plant more than 2,200 ha of the fig tree.
In general, the fig tree occupies an area of ​​about 50,000 hectares or 5% of Morocco's tree heritage. The Kingdom has 25 varieties of fig trees, including 6 cultivated on a large scale for its marketing.
