The province of Taounate is the leading producer of figs in Morocco, with 40% of the overall national area. Harvesting of figs has currently started in Taounate province. Like the olive tree, the fig tree is an emblematic product and a symbol of the province's local heritage. Indeed, the annual harvest is estimated at 74,100 tonnes: 78% of regional production. The province of Taounate is the leading producer of figs in Morocco, with 40% of the overall national area; In addition, thanks to the Green Morocco Plan, the province was able to plant more than 2,200 ha of the fig tree. In general, the fig tree occupies an area of about 50,000 hectares or 5% of Morocco's tree heritage. The Kingdom has 25 varieties of fig trees, including 6 cultivated on a large scale for its marketing.
