Difficulty of Vietnamese sugar industry

The sugar cane industry in Vietnam is struggling. Since the implementation of the ATIGA agreement, all tariff imposed on imported sugar from ASEAN countries has been eliminated. Vietnamese sugar manufacturers are finding it hard to compete with imported sugar from Thailand and other ASEAN countries. In addition, the global price of sugar has seen a significant decrease in the last 5 years.
