Malaysia finds substitute of rice to achieve self sufficiency

There are rice production initiatives being taken in Malaysia which would produce rice without any negative implication of humans health. The production will use products like a sweet potato as a substitute. Rice production initiatives can reduce dependence on paddy and reduce the volume of imports. Malaysia imports rice from neighbouring countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia due to high demand in the country but the country cannot forever depend on the import of rice and needs to work on finding a substitute.
