Malaysia currently ranks 6th as one of the largest pepper producing countries in the world with a total production of more than 31,000 MT per year. The majority of Malaysian pepper exports are to East Asian countries such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and China. Although the Malaysian government regularly regulates the prices of agricultural products produced in the country, the government cannot control the price of black pepper. This is because the pepper price depends on commodity prices in the world market.
