Following the opening of the Ambon fishing port in the Maluku province, the local fishermen and exporters in the province are now able to ship their live crabs to major importing countries such as Malaysia and Singapore. Live crab is a new emerging commodity from this province as it is now farmed on the mangrove forest along the coastline of this province. It is recorded that in May 2020, the first shipment of 2 MT of live crab from this province was done to the aforementioned countries. At the moment, this fishing port can only accommodate one direct shipment to Singapore and Malaysia in a week, but It is expected that in the near future this new fishing port can play the role as a hub that connects fishermen and exporters of live crab in the neighboring provinces to enable them to export their commodities up to 3 times in a week directly from this port and by the end of 2020.
