Uganda faces new swarms of Desert Locusts invasion from the East, as recorded by Surveillance and Geo-Information Teams in the North Eastern region of the country. The country has been invaded by a second wave of desert locust swarms from Kenya which entered Uganda through Amudat district early April 2020 and spread further inland into Kumi, Katakwi, Otuke and Agago districts. Unlike previous swarms, these swarms comprise of immature adult desert locusts recently hatched in Kenya.

Government through the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries has undertaken various interventions to control the desert locusts.

FAO has been identified supporting efforts to mobilize and educate communities about Desert Locust control operations through radio stations so that they can move their livestock, beehives and families to safety, ahead of spraying operations.
