The apricot harvest has already started in Silistra, the main apricot region of Bulgaria. However, apricot growers are discontent with the fact that there are large apricot fields that are declared a total loss.
Apricot growers expect that the yield will be lower by 80% compared to the last year caused by frosts earlier in the season.
Currently, there are Greek apricots imported to the country and farmgate prices of the Bulgarian apricot are around €1-1,30 per kg.
On the other hand, local apricot traders and traders from Romania are not coming even to inquire about prices this season knowing the fact that they can't secure the purchase of needed quantities caused by low yield.
