The monthly potato consumption has gone down from 1.2 kmt to 0.7 kmt in Northern Cyprus due to the Covid19 outbreak. As a result, there is an excess supply of 6 kmt of potatoes in the domestic market.
Turkey has imported potatoes from Egypt which has limited export possibilities from Northern Cyprus. As a result, the farmgate price of potatoes went down from 0.45 USD per kg in 2019 to 0.30 USD per kg in 2020.
