COVID-19 affects rice production in Nigeria

With the current protocol of social distancing, farmers who hitherto engaged large groups of laborers to work on their farms are compelled to reduce the numbers which is affecting commercial production of Rice in Ghana and Nigeria.
The ban by the Nigerian government on the importation of rice since 2019, to boost local production and enforce the consumption of locally produced rice is expected to be lifted in the coming months as rice reserves is fast diminishing nationwide.
