Russian Fruit and Vegetables Association requested banning of tomato imports for the next 2 months from the Ministry of Agriculture, pointing out that the low prices are making it impossible for domestic growers to survive in the market.

52% of the tomatoes in the Russian market were imported in 2019 and in the first 2 months of 2020, Russia had imported 80 kmt of tomatoes from Turkey, Azerbaijan, China, and Morocco for 100 million USD.

Russia currently has an annual tomato import quota from Turkey set at 200 kmt. Turkish tomato exporters are awaiting nervously the Ministry's response to the request.
