The decision made by the Indonesian government to ban meat import from China has had an impact on the availability of Peking duck in Indonesia. The supply of this product has fallen sharply over the last two months and has affected the Chinese restaurants in Indonesia that rely heavily on imported products from China. As an alternative, these restaurants had to import Peking duck from Malaysia. Still, the quality of the duck meat from Malaysia is considered to be lower than its Chinese counterpart. Nevertheless, until the import ban has been lifted, the restaurant industry would need to keep importing the meat from Malaysia.
