Faced with the absence of buyers due to corona virus, 30,000 tonnes of raw cashew nuts may not find buyers in Senegal. This represents a shortfall of around € 76 million for producers in the three Casamance producing regions of Kolda, Sédhiou and Ziguinchor.
This year, the usual Indian and Mauritanian buyers will not be meeting in these production areas because the virus prevents movement.
This prospect makes it the second year in a row of poor cashew season. Last year was as a result of price plummeting due to global overproduction.
