Afghanistan has increased its production volume of saffron from around 16 tons to almost 20 tons last year. Around 90% of the produced volumes are exported as the global demand is increasing for the red saffron of Afghanistan. Afghan farmers expect to generate around $27 million from saffron sales this year and the wholesale prices for saffron vary between $634 and $1,147 per kg depending on the type and quality.
