Demand for Afghan red saffron on the rise, prices increase too

Afghanistan has increased its production volume of saffron from around 16 tons to almost 20 tons last year.
Around 90% of the produced volumes are exported as the global demand is increasing for the red saffron of Afghanistan. Afghan farmers expect to generate around $27 million from saffron sales this year and the wholesale prices for saffron vary between $634 and $1,147 per kg depending on the type and quality.
