Garlic prices in Turkey have almost doubled during the past couple of weeks from 20-25 TRY/kg up to 45-55 TRY/kg. The demand for garlic is reported to have increased after the Covid-19 breakout due to the fact there were rumors saying garlic heals the virus however, it's not the real reason behind the price increase. Last year's crop was significantly low due to frosts and to curb the shortage, Turkish importers relied on the Chinese and the Iranian garlic imports. Now is the planting harvest and producers are selling their last stocks of garlic, therefore, there's a big shortage awaiting us ahead. The garlic shortage and the prices are expected to get even worsen during April since the garlic supply will be highly limited until July especially, now that the Chinese and Iranian garlic imports remain unlikely and uncertain.
