British Columbia's sea cucumber harvesting is regulated by Canada's Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Commercial fishing can only be conducted by license holders and the season begins in October and runs for roughly two months. The giant red variety is the only one commercial harvested in the province and is handpicked by scuba divers.
