The agricultural sector alone consumes 80% of water resources in Tunisia.
This causes a huge problem in managing this increasingly scarce commodity.
Noting the need to adopt an orientation map for crops and agricultural exports according to the quantities of water consumed, the government announces, during an awareness meeting in Tunis, that Tunisia aspires to increase the area of irrigated crops with an objective to reach 90% of the agricultural land in the upcoming years
As a reminder, the "Climate Plan for Tunisia" foresees a reduction of Tunisia’s conventional water resources by 30% by 2030 with an expected reduction in surface resources of around 5%.
