Croatian beekeepers suffer great losses of 50 million bees, allegedly caused by pesticides

Beekeepers in the Croatian region of Medjimurie has suffered huge losses of dead bees discovered on the fields within the proximity of beehives.
According to beekeepers' accounts, there are about 600 beehives affected with around 50 million bees believed to be dead.
The preliminary cause is considered to be the high levels of pesticides sprayed on potato and canola fields.
Officials inform that beekeepers will be compensated with €200 per beehive.
