Butter and margarine are used as spreads in the Philippines and are also used in cooking different homemade dishes. However, due to the higher price compared to cooking oil or vegetable oil, local consumers would rather purchase the latter ones. Butter and margarine price in the domestic market is around 50% higher compared to cooking oil. Thus, home bakers or those who run pastry businesses are the ones that frequently buy butter and margarine. Due to that no many suppliers usually import quality butter to the Philippines since the demand overall is quite low.
