A number of seaweed suppliers in Serang regency in West Java has succeeded in striking a deal with some buyers in Vietnam to send dried seaweed to Vietnam. This export was facilitated by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of Indonesia, and the commodity will be delivered via sea-freight to Vietnam in early May 2020. The ministry reported that around 53 MT of dried seaweed will be sent and they expect the order to continue for another batch in June 2020. The ministry also expects that this could be the beginning of a partnership with the buyers in Vietnam for continuous trading activities considering the high demand for seaweed from this country that is currently estimated at 3,000 MT annually.
