Despite the fact that Turkey is a significant watermelon producer, Iran used to export watermelon to Turkey until May during when the import tariffs were increased from $100 to $300 per ton. The increase in the import tariff came into effect to protect Turkish farmers. On the other hand, the new tariff regulation has disrupted Iranian exporters' plans and they had to start to look for newer markets.
