The majority of cocoa beans production in Indonesia (around 80%) is still allocated to accommodate the demand from overseas consumers as the national consumption for cocoa-based products is still considerably lower compared to other countries. Only around 20% of the total annual production is sold to the domestic market. Most of the cocoa beans-based products in Indonesia are exported in form of processed cocoa-based products such as cocoa powder and cocoa butter, with Europe being the primary export destination and especially to chocolate producing countries such as Belgium, France, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.
