As an effort to improve the welfare of coffee beans farmers in North Sumatra, the local government in this region is now trying to facilitate a sales channel for these farmers to market their product. There has been a growing demand for single-origin coffee beans from North Sumatra from neighboring countries such as Thailand and Malaysia, but the problem is the smallholder farmers still do not have a representative company to promote and export their products. Knowing this, the government has formed a partnership with licensed exporter from this region to source the coffee beans from the farmers and trade the commodity to buyers from overseas. North Sumatra province itself has a high potential to be a major contributor for coffee beans nationally as the current production capacity from this province has reached the level of 200 MT of green beans in a week.
