Iran has a production capacity of 2.4 million tons of chocolate, biscuits, and pastry however the real production stands at around 1.7 million tons. Chocolate and pastry exports usually are around $800 million mainly to export destinations such as Iraq and Afghanistan, followed by the USA, Japan, Russia, and European countries (mainly Eastern Europe).
The global Covid-19 outbreak has caused a major drop in pastry consumption and this impacted Iranian exports to decrease by nearly 30% and barely reaching $450 million.
On the other hand, Iran's chocolate and pastry consumption per capita is 21 kg per year.
