There has been a shift in terms of consumer preference for Indonesian coffee beans from Europan consumers. Most buyers in the European countries such as Sweeden and Denmark have been ordering green bean, instead of the roasted coffee beans. Several national coffee beans suppliers mentioned that this latest trend was based on the preference by the buyers to roast the green coffee beans using their own machinery and roasting methods. The buyers claimed that by roasting the coffee beans in-house, they would be able to directly monitor the process and ensure that the level of hygiene is in accordance with their standard. Although it seemed practical for the suppliers, not being able to roast the coffee beans would mean that they are unable to charge more for the beans.
