Since Malaysia does not produce garlic and onion, most of these products are imported from India (onion) and China (garlic). At this moment Malaysia faces a shortage of stock for both products because china stopped exporting due to the COVID-19 virus and India stopped exporting onion until the new crop harvest. This has led to an increase of the onion and garlic prices in Malaysia and is being monitored closely by the government as both are controlled-price products in Malaysia.
