Some Chia Seeds farmers in Northern Uganda faced significant post-harvest loses of their 2019/2020 harvests after contaminations from the insect fumigation of storage facilities in Uganda which was carried out by the government.

The measure to combat insect pests in the northern region unintentionally damaged farmers harvests due to the use of toxic chemicals making the harvests unfavourable for the market.

To protect from moisture and other unwanted materials Chia in Uganda are sun-dried and stored covered with polythene coated bags after harvests.
