In order to meet the local demand, the cattle livestock in Iran should be approximately 60 million heads. According to the latest official data, the country has 12 million extra cattle livestock at the moment. The cattle surplus is causing problems for farmers facing by creating a shortage of cattle feed and creating redundant stocks of animals. Iran had banned the export of livestock animals last year so that is could secure the domestic stocks. The outbreak of COVID 19 has reduced the consumption of red meat which has also added to the problem of surplus cattle livestock in the country.
