Taro is one of the oldest food crops that can be grown anywhere in the Philippines throughout the year and it ranks third in production and hectarage among root crops grown in the country. However, the product is considered to be one of the more expensive and rare vegetables in the market, particularly in the metropolitan areas, as the production of taro in the Philippines is still low compared to sweet potato and cassava. Thus, the demand for taro is not as high as the other popular root crops in the country.
