Recent data released by the Ministry of Agriculture has shown that the production output of cocoa beans in the Sulawesi region in 2020 was recorded at only around 100 KMT. This marks the third year in a row where the production of cocoa beans in this region experienced a downward slope on its annual production, after recording 112 KMT and 118 KMT in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Aside from the reduction on available plantation land, the decrease has also been attributed to extreme weather conditions that have hampered this region in the past few years. The current situation presents its own challenge for the national cocoa beans industry to bounce back in 2021 since Sulawesi is a major producing region and contributor to the overall national production.
