A gateway for Vietnamese vegetables and fruits to the EU

Vietnam is currently ranked 5th in Asia in fruit and vegetable production and EVFTA is bringing new opportunities for Vietnam to increase its share in the EU market. The EU's large market size and seasonal demand are an attractive market for suppliers in developing countries. For a long time, the Netherlands has been considered as a gateway to the EU market, the leading transshipment in Europe and the world, especially for fruits and vegetables. Currently, more than 20% of fresh fruit and vegetables supplied to Europe by developing countries to the EU arrive via the Netherlands, from the port of Rotterdam. Then Dutch and international traders will directly distribute the product to European countries. The amount of EU vegetables and fruits imported from Vietnam accounts for a very small proportion, only about 0.08% of the EU's imports, but the share is expected to increase thanks to the EVFTA.
