Adverse weather conditions penalize peach production in Portugal

According to September's Monthly Bulletin of Agriculture and Fisheries of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the atypical climatic conditions registered in the present campaign affected the productivity of the peach orchards. With more intensity in the interior of the Center Portugal, the hail fall of the last day of May left many fruits marked on the epidermis and pulp, thus unable to be marketed for fresh consumption.

As a result, production is expected to decrease 25%, roughly 32,000 tons.
