Despite overall declining exports since 2017 to China and Hong Kong, 2021 is marked by a recovery of exports in value with +16% and volume with +9%. Beyond the simple effect of catching up from the health crisis, French wines also benefit from the big fall in imports of Australian wines (due to a customs surtax). It is mainly Bordeaux wines that benefit from the dynamism of the Chinese market (+20% in volume compared to 2020). Also, the average price of exports to China reached its highest level on record at EUR 9.39 per litter. This price increase trend, which started in 2014, confirms the overall upmarket trend in China.
