Greek farmers will start the threshing of rice in two weeks and the harvest yield expectation is well supported by favorable weather conditions. Last year the main rice-producing region, Chalastra, had an output of 230 KMT with remaining stocks of about 12,000 tons.
The country mainly exports the rice to Turkey however, Greek exporters are looking for ways to diversify their exports in order to reduce the export dependency on one country. Greek rice exporters are targeting Middle Eastern importers but facing a harsh competition by Turkish traders in this part of the world.
