Following the eruption of a volcano in North Sumatra, the local government has decided to temporarily shut down the air transport in the province. This initiative is expected to halt the export of some of the most commonly exported vegetables such as green cabbage and broccoli to Malaysia and Singapore. On the other hand, this air transport stoppage is also expected to limit the supply of imported fruits such as grapes and fuji apple that have a high demand in this province. The government has not officially released a statement on how long will the local airport would be closed for, but the local exporters and importers expect that the shutdown would last for at least one week with the reopening of the airport is expected to take place in early September 2020.
