Alaska Salmon Harvest Lags as Season Nears End, Driving Up Prices in W33

Alaska's salmon harvest volumes saw a slight uptick in W33, primarily driven by increased pink salmon catches in Southeast Alaska. Despite this, the overall catch remains significantly behind 2023 levels. As the wild salmon fishing season nears its end, with only four weeks remaining, the keta (chum) salmon harvest is just 55% complete, well below the five-year average for this time of year. This shortfall contributes to rising prices and a shortage of raw materials across most salmon species harvested in Alaska.
