Despite high initial forecasts for the keta salmon season in Alaska, statewide keta harvests are consistently down, with Chignik being the only region showing growth at +6%. The total statewide salmon harvest has reached 36% of the projected total, while the keta salmon harvest has reached 31% of the total allowed catches for the season, nearly halfway through. The sockeye salmon fishing season is nearing completion, with 92% of the total permitted catches already completed. Overall, the season for all five species of wild salmon (Sockeye, Keta, Coho, Pink, and Chinook) in Alaska is significantly behind compared to the same period over the last five years.
