Whole shrimp sales between January and July 2020 fell 56% in tones and 65% in U$D compared to the same period in 2019, registering an average price drop of 20%. In total, close to 17K tons have been exported for a value of about U$D 84M, while for the same period last year U$D 238M had been collected. The average price between one period and another went from U$D 6K to 4,8K.
The largest decrease was registered in Spain, which purchased 63% less and meant a drop in collection of 70.5%, going from U$D 112M to 33M. The decline in sales to China also had a strong impact: in volume, it fell by 54% and in foreign currency by 63%, going from U$D 36M to 13M. Russia didn't help either; the drop in sales was 36% and 50% in U$D, and a similar situation occurred in Italy, France, and Japan, other important markets for whole shrimp.
Shrimp tails became extremely important in the crustacean market. In volume, sales grew by 8.5% and that helped the 7.4% drop in the average price not be noticed and even allowed it to grow half a point in revenue. In total, 30,6K tons were matured for U$D 222M, at an average value of U$D 7.3. Last year the average price for this period was U$D 7.8.
