The current situation in W18 is more or less the same after the sudden change in the Argentinian squid season. Offers from Taiwan for Argentinian squid sourced from the Falkland Islands and the 201-mile zone dropped around 25%. Taiwanese fishing companies are now offering lower prices, ranging from USD 3,100 to USD 3,400 per metric ton (mt) for medium (M) and large (L) sizes, compared to the previous prices of USD 4,000 to USD 4,500/mt offered by Argentinian exporters. Argentinian exporters have shifted their focus to producing squid tubes or other value-added products. However, demand for small sizes (SS and S) from Argentina remains strong, particularly for bait, keeping prices relatively stable around USD 3,500/mt as Taiwan is not offering this product.
