Domestic lamb consumption continues to decline in Australia but China has gained domination in export demand. According to a report, in recent years, the retail price for lamb has climbed higher but Australia continued to become one of the largest consumers per capita of sheep meat in the world. In 2019, Australian per capita consumption of lamb declined to 6.8 kg from 7.5 kg in 2018. The drop in lamb consumption was attributed due to stagnant wage growth and increased living costs driving many consumers to become more price sensitive.
