Australian Cherry Export Season Has Finally Started in W48

Following a long period of excessive rain in Australia that caused the cherry season to be delayed by three weeks and resulted in a lack of acceptable export quantities, Australia has begun to export cherry. Consequently, compared to prior seasons, this one will be brief. The initial price range for a carton of premium-grade cherries is between USD 104-106/5kg. Exporters say that trade with Vietnam is much more sensible than with China because Chilean Cherries have begun to arrive in the Chinese market and are selling for around USD 28.39/kg (RMB 200/kg). The cost of Australian cherries to export is around USD 13.61/kg (AUD 20/kg) to the Cherry Grower and another USD 5.5/kg in freight costs. Also, the quality of the Australian cherries is poor because of heavy rain, which makes the fruit very soft, and the quality is inferior to Chilean cherries. Only a limited supply is available this season.
