Australian winemakers have reported their most valuable yearly export trade since 2007, with China spending more on a smaller volume of wine. Despite the recents allegations of dumping, China continues to be the most lucrative market for Australian exporters, with imports worth AUD $1.17 billion (USD $0.83 bn), a 4% increase YTD vs 2019 in value, even when the volume had fallen a 12%.
The latest data from Wine Australia shows exports shrugged off a pandemic downturn to be valued at AUD $2.99 billion (USD $2.14 bn) in the year to September, 4% more compared with the same period last year.
The Chinese market is worth almost four times as much to Australian winemakers as the second most valuable market, which is the United States.
