For Australia and the Southern Hemisphere countries, the lemon season starts from April to October, as it is common to pick the citrus fruits in the wintertime.
In summer, Australia tends to import all of its domestic consumption. These lemons come mainly from the US, and people in Australia are now used to higher lemon prices from November to March.
This year though, the price differences have not been clearly marked, even though the citrus season already started. It will be a matter of time to see if COVID-19 will cause the prices to be similar to imported ones during the rest of the season, or if it is just a matter of the typically higher prices for the first fruits of the season.
Higher prices in the first fruit of the season is a common case with seasonal fresh fruits, as there is a high demand of the customers and the supply tends to be low at the beginning.
