Australia's complicated pineapple import industry

Australia has a stable production of pineapple, and due to its large size and different climates, pineapples can be produced all year round. However, the highly-demanded tropical fruit sometimes is not sufficient outside its peak season (November to February) thus, Australia imports for the rest of the year.

By law, importers can only bring pineapples from five countries, these are Thailand, the Philippines, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, and the Solomon Islands. Moreover, these pineapples have to be imported "crownless", making their shelf life even shorter than what it already is.
