Considerable Price Increase Forecasted for the Chilean Avocado Market in March 2023

In Chile, avocado consumption is very high, reaching an average of 7-8kg per capita yearly. Avocado is the only agricultural product with similar levels of export and local consumption due to its high demand. However, the price is forecasted to increase due to a deficit in production caused by water shortages in avocado plantations, estimating that the price will increase by an average of USD 1.21/kg (CLP 1K/kg) until April when the Peruvian avocados are expected to arrive. However, the importation of Peruvian avocado does not guarantee a price drop. Furthermore, the socio-political crisis in Peru may affect the avocado export market in 2023, which may influence the price or reception of avocados.
