For W37 and W38, Costa Rican banana prices surged after two difficult months, where the demand in Europe and the United States decreased due to summer and school vacations. In September, banana exports increased due to higher demand, and spot prices in Ecuador increased. In Costa Rica, banana producers with a surplus of first-class fruit can sell at spot prices that so far in September stand between USD 9.35-10 per 18.14 kg FCA, increasing from average prices of USD 7.50-8/18.14 kg. Producers are optimistic about the price increases and forecast that in W40, Costa Rica will hold an additional export supply to be sold at the spot market.
