BASA fish falls short in China

China imports a large amount of BASA fish every year from Vietnam. However, as the epidemic is serious in Vietnam and the cost of raw materials keeps increasing, the price of BASA fish in China is very high, and fillet of size 300-600g falls short.

Vinh Hoan, the company in Vietnam, foresees that BASA fish will face a severe shortage in 2022. Though Vietnam has 130 baby fish incubation companies, only 96 can be operated at this moment of the time, and simultaneously, the price of feed increased by 30%. With all the mentioned factors combined, the quantity of baby fish is expected to decrease.
