A big Portuguese supplier of berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries) exported 95% of his production, mainly to Germany in 2020. The supplier has an annual contract with the German Giant Discount Supermarket Chain, LIDL, and sells the Portuguese berries to 26 countries in Europe, where LIDL supermarkets are located (around 300 supermarkets per country). LIDL operates its own trucks to transport products from several origins to other countries.

In Portugal, the berries were the top exported fruit in 2020. The export value was EUR 247 million, which represents an increase of 5.5% compared to 2019. Portuguese berries are exported to three main countries, which are Holland (32%), Germany (20%), and Spain (17%).
