In 2020, the export value of berries from Portugal was EUR 247 million, among which value of raspberry amounted to EUR 183 million. Around 90% of the production of the berries are harvested in Alentejo, a Portuguese region with high temperatures and good soils.

In 1970, the Portuguese government created a watering plan for the region. Today, 50 years later, this plan is old and obsolete, and need urgent updates, because it has water perches of around 40%. The local producers ask for urgent measures from the Government, to fix this problem, before it affects the production of berries, and the exports.
