When bird flu spread to Turkey, 1.5M laying hens were culled in Denizli, the centre of egg production, and approximately 5M laying hens in the Afyonkarahisar region, causing egg prices to double. Egg prices, which were USD 0.092–0.11 per egg in January, increased by the middle of March and rose to USD 0.16-0.25 per egg.
